Our 2017 Winner was Josh Farell on stage with Charlene White representing UTV, ITV's regional station in Northern Ireland.

Before taking part in Breaking Into News Josh was working in retail. By his own admission he wasn’t enjoying working in retail but at the time he wasn't sure which direction he wanted to go down after completing his BTEC in Creative Media. After his Mum had seen a post about the competition, he decided to apply.

Josh created his news report on integrated schools in Northern Ireland, he particularly focused on why in recent years popularity for them have decreased.

'Northern Ireland has a reputation for being a very divided country so I was drawn to this story because I felt like it showed the country in a different light.'

'Without Breaking Into News I definitely would not be going to university. That’s something I never really thought would happen for me. It’s given me an actual idea of what I want to do with my life, so I really owe a lot to the competition.

I can’t recommend it enough. Even if you have no experience and feel like you have nothing to offer. Just try. Because you never know what might happen.'
